Meet Megan
Hey there! I’m so glad you made it here. Welcome to Finding Space: a therapy practice which blends both creative and empowering modalities for those seeking support, guidance, excitement, and deep care.
My name is Megan Buys. As I type this introduction out, I keep drawing myself back to the questions “who am I?” and “who am I as a therapist?” To be honest with you, I am not sure I can separate the two.
To begin, I am a registered counsellor and psychotherapist. I have completed a Bachelor of Communication and Master of Counselling at The University of Notre Dame, and hold my registration through the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). I am also currently completing a doctorate degree (PhD) at the University of Western Sydney’s Translational Health Research Institute where my research focuses on designing and exploring a psychotherapy program with parts-work and arts-based methods. I am a writer, an academic, a university teacher, and the creator of this practice here: Finding Space.
I am also a sister, daughter, partner, friend, yogi, tea-drinker, ocean-lover, aspirational-runner, and avid list-maker. I am the kind of person who would happily lie on the floor for hours listening to albums in full, and also the kind of person who would love to sit with you to tease out how you can exactly live you life you want to live. I divide my energy between softness and profound focus; similar to how I divide my time between the salty coast of Sydney and the quietness of my partner’s farm in the Central West. As I write this, I’m watching the gum trees cast long shadows over the front paddock, encouraging me to go for a jump in the river before the sun goes down.
As a therapist, I work in a way that can be described as integrative, creative, trauma-informed, uplifting, and deeply understanding. My philosophy as a therapist involves removing myself from an expert position, to sit with you, as just another human with a curious and open mind. I hold a secure, supportive, non-judgemental, and non-pathologising space for you to be fully who you are.
If you would like to learn more about the way we can work together, the modalities I draw from, or the areas I work in, you’re welcome to click over to the Sessions page. If you would like to read the beautiful testimonials from my current clients, you’re welcome to click over to the Client Words page.
If you would love to know even more about me, our incredible therapists, or Finding Space in general, scroll down and reach out. I am curious to know who you are!
With kindness,
Megan

Meet Freya
Hey! I’m Freya - a psychotherapist, coach, and organisational consultant. For over a decade, I’ve been helping individuals, families, and teams unlock positive change. Whether you or your family are in the midst of a life transition, navigating relationship challenges, or simply feel like it’s a good time to take stock and move forwards, I’m here for the journey. So, where shall we begin?
I look at “problems” in the wider context of people’s lives, relationships, and cultural influences. We’ll work together as thought-partners to unearth hopes, identify the challenges that are getting in the way, and magnify the strengths and resources you have to overcome them. My therapeutic approach blends Systemic Therapies, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy.
Originally from the UK, I draw on experience from a range of settings; including frontline services (NHS, Samaritans), community services (schools), and creative corporate worlds (Google, BBC, ad agencies). I also run Reframe Sessions; a therapeutic service that supports everyday athletes who are up against injury.
At Finding Space, I work with individuals, couples, and families. I have a special interest in life transitions (adolescence, career changes and unemployment, perinatal mental health support, and other big life changes), relationships (couples therapy, family therapy, LGBTQIA+ experience, and post-separation support), and supporting individuals to develop a greater sense of self (e.g. managing anxiety, building confidence).
My core training includes a BSc in Psychology, Postgraduate Diploma in Systemic Family Therapy, Advanced Practice in Narrative Therapy, and a Masters in Clinical Family Therapy (2025). I am also trained in working with Complex Trauma, Single Session Solution Focused Therapy, and Performance Coaching as Certified Red2Blue Coach.

Meet Dan
Hello and welcome, I’m Dan.
The piano player Billy Joel sang, “we all have a face that we hide away forever, and we take them out and show ourselves, when everyone has gone.” I quote him because I believe the healing one seeks in therapy can only begin by revealing one’s private self to another. It’s a place that’s earned, slowly but surely, when client and therapist tell the truth to each other. Doing so is the heart of the therapeutic relationship; one that is built on trust and vulnerability.
I employ a human-centred approach that draws on a range of cognitive-behavioural therapies (CBT) that help to recognise unhelpful thought and behaviour patterns. It is based on the idea that one’s thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected and affect each other. CBT informs many useful approaches. These include Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Exposure Therapy, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy. Together, these are effective for people with a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, personality disorders, intrusive thoughts, post-traumatic stress, sleep issues, and addictive behaviours.
I think it’s valuable for you to develop an awareness of your unique cycles of experience, so you understand what you want to find peace with, to nurture and let in, or to integrate and let go. I’m committed to creating a genuine therapeutic relationship with you that is built on respect, safety, and mutual honesty. Everything we do will be collaborative.
My training includes a Master of Arts in Psychology, Graduate Diploma in Counselling, Master of Public Health, and a Graduate Diploma in Adult Education. Outside of counselling, I’m a father and grandfather, an author and podcaster, a palliative care support volunteer, and a men’s group facilitator. I live in the Blue Mountains where you will often find me bushwalking or practicing yoga.

THERAPIST | WEDNESDAYS, FRIDAYS, AND ONLINE
Hello! Thanks for stopping by.
I’m Rachel, and I wear many hats. I’m a counsellor, a yoga teacher, surfer, a friend, daughter, sister, and so much more.
As a counsellor, I take a holistic approach to mental health and wellbeing, honouring the depth and uniqueness of the person sitting across from me; their life experiences, environment, the worlds they operate in, and all the multilayered ways these have all shaped them. I embrace Eastern and Western modalities, and take a trauma informed, strengths-based, person-centred approach. I believe that as humans, we all have the capacity to grow, heal, and return home to ourselves, and sometimes need a little help along the way.
In a typical session with me, you will be invited to explore different therapeutic tools that meet you where you are, and where you want to go. Whether through talk therapy and reauthoring stories, somatic approaches, parts work, or mindfulness-based practices, I intend to hold a supportive, non-judgemental and non-pathologising space for you to be all that you are. I work with a range of people, including teens and young adults, those experiencing anxiety and stress, indecision or self doubt, interpersonal challenges, trauma and loss.
I am currently studying a Masters of Social Work with the University of Sydney, and have a Bachelor in Media and Communications with the University of New South Wales. I’ve also completed more than 500 hours of Yoga Teacher Training, including Yoga for Trauma, Anxiety, Depression and Body Image. I hold a deep interest in Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Therapies, and Interpersonal Therapy. My work as a counsellor can be described as one that is compassionate, uplifting, supportive, and dedicated to creating a safe space.
I took the scenic road to get here. Over the last 15 years, I’ve worked in the technology and music industries, and have been a Yoga teacher for half of that time. Yoga showed me how interwoven the body and mind are, beautifully echoed by neuroscientist Candance Pert, “Your mind is in every cell of your body”. This insight became the road that led me to pursue studies, and ultimately a vocation that bridges these spheres, to support mental health and wellbeing holistically.
If you feel this strikes a chord with you, I’d love to meet you.

Meet Margot
Hi there!
I’m passionate about helping individuals build and sustain functional, healthy relationships – with themselves, partners, family and the world at large – while investigating meaning and identity in their lives.
I work with a variety of clients including those navigating anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, life transitions and interpersonal struggles. Let's look to find opportunities for personal growth as we find our way through these challenges. There is a power in having a fellow traveller beside you on your way to getting to know yourself, and I would be honoured to accompany you for this journey.
I utilise an integrative approach incorporating elements of including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Person-Centred Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy, Gottman Method Relationship Therapy, Schema therapy, Emotionally focused therapy with an Interpersonal and Existential focus. I have completed a Master of Counselling at The University of Notre Dame, and am also a member of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
In our conversations you will feel safe to explore freely who you are, and who you want to be. I invite you to talk and make sense of your needs, aims and experiences. With shared curiosity you will teach me about what makes you ‘you’ and together we’ll explore ways you find and create meaning and use that knowledge to effect positive changes in your life.

Meet Jess
Hi, I’m Jess! I’m really glad you’ve found your way here.
I see therapy as a quiet, steady space where you can lay down what feels heavy, untangle what feels confusing, and begin to hear your own voice more clearly. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, identity shifts, relationship challenges, grief, or a season of change that feels uncertain, you don’t have to move through it alone.
I am a registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and hold a Master of Counselling from the University of Canberra. My work is integrative and trauma-informed, drawing from Person-Centred Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Internal Family Systems. I take a collaborative approach, working with you to explore patterns, honour your strengths, and create space for witnessing meaningful change.
I hold a gentle interest in supporting clients experiencing loss in its many forms, whether through bereavement, relational changes, unmet expectations, or the quiet grief that comes when life unfolds differently than imagined. I am particularly interested in helping people reconnect with their values, develop self-compassion, and build emotional awareness.
Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in creative roles in the media industry. Creativity still shapes how I work – with curiosity, imagination, and an appreciation for the stories we carry about ourselves. I believe we are always in the process of becoming, and therapy can be a place to re-author what feels stuck or self-limiting. If something here resonates with you, I would be honoured to meet you.

Meet Amelia
Well hello there!
I made my way to the counselling profession on an unusual path. The past two decades I have worked as a commercial and personal stylist and colour consultant. I have completed a degree in Communications at the University of South Australia and more recently in Counselling at the University of Canberra. As a therapist, the modalities I use and appreciate are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Somatic therapy. These modalities are used according to a client’s specific needs and preferences.
Personal styling provided insight into the dwindling confidence many women experience as they enter perimenopause, menopause, and beyond. Particularly with body shape changes, low mood, agitation, fluctuating energy levels, and feeling invisible. I’m offering my counselling services to dive into a woman’s personal obstacles in a safe, non judgemental, empathic, and calm space. In addition, I support clients experiencing grief and loss, relationship challenges, and identity shifts.
I am also drawn to working with teenagers as they navigate modern stressors including social issues, strained family dynamics, addiction, body dysmorphia, and academic pressure. Many young people internalise their struggles and desperately need a safe space to express themselves.
When I’m not counselling or styling people, I’m spending time with my family and friends, swimming in the ocean, gardening, or painting. Creativity, grounding in nature, and connecting with people is my life force. I'm excited to meet you to gently work towards a growing sense of self awareness and an evolving deep inner confidence and clarity.

Meet Rebecca
Hi there, thanks for joining me here!
I’ve been curious about what it means to be a human in this world for as long as I can remember. I believe from a health and wellbeing perspective, our need and ability to connect to ourselves and each other is fundamental. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with life transitions and challenges, need support navigating difficult relationships or would like to experience personal growth, I’ll hold space for you to gently explore your thoughts and feelings, non-judgementally with curiosity and compassion. Working collaboratively and led by you, we will work together to enable growth and healing.
Like many who find their calling as a therapist, I’ve had many educational and life experiences along the way including attaining qualifications in business and finance, working professionally in the corporate world and parenting two teenagers. My current qualifications include a Graduate Diploma in Counselling and I’m on the path to completing a Masters in Psychotherapy and Counselling at Western Sydney University. I have additional training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and registration with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
Whether you’re looking to build self-awareness or need support to navigate life challenges, I can offer a holistic, trauma informed and non-pathologising approach. I love working with adults and teenagers dealing with a range of issues impacting a sense of identity and belonging such as social exclusion and bullying, perfectionism, low self-worth, anxiety and relationship issues. I also enjoy supporting people experiencing challenging family dynamics, intergenerational conflict and migration issues while maintaining a culturally sensitive approach.
As a therapist, I use an integrated blend of person-centred therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy to meet your needs. I will work intuitively and creatively with you to explore your underlying beliefs, values, relational patterns and strengths. Having done this inner work myself, I truly believe that over time it is possible for you to feel an increased sense of agency, purpose and problem-solving capability and an enhanced sense of feeling grounded, creative and connected.
If this resonates with you, I’d love to meet you on this journey.
